About me
My name is Xiaoyun Wang (汪小韫). I am an applied linguistics researcher exploring multimodal interaction in everyday and educational settings. I investigate how participants coordinate syntactic, prosodic, and bodily-visual resources to accomplish social actions. My interests further extend to classroom interactional competence, L2 interactional competence, multilingualism, and longitudinal conversation analysis.
From a conversation-analytic perspective, I believe that language should be examined in its own habitat, through participants’ own perspective. As Pike (1967) noted, “Emic units must be discovered, not predicted.” In this spirit, my analytic task is to uncover how participants display what is meaningful and relevant, and thereby to understand the world as they themselves construct it.
